CHICHIBU TAMA NATIONAL PARK

INTRODUCTION:

The Chichibu Tama National Park is located north west of Tokyo and covers the Kanto Mountains. It is a region of mountains, gorges and valleys. It covers an area of about 1250 square kilometres.

The park can be reached via Ome to the east and Chichibu to the north of the national park.

Bush walking and mountain climbing are the main attractions of the park, including such mountains as Kimpu (2595m), Kokushi (2592m), Ryogami (1724m), Mikuni (1828m) and Mount Daibosatsu (2057m). There are over 20 peaks in excess of 2000m.

There are some 2 800 species of plants represented in the national park.

Animal species include deer, squirrels and monkeys.
