Bongil Bongil National Park

WHAT'S ON THIS PAGE:

INTRODUCTION

Bongil Bongil National Park is located about 20km south of Coffs Harbour and just south of Sawtell, to the east of the Pacific Highway, preserving some 1 250 hectares of coastal land. The park contains North and Bonville Beaches, rainforest and wetlands. On the western side of the park lies the Pine Creek State Forest.

Access to the park is difficult, being mainly by the Tuckers Rock Road in the south and both Williams and Lyons Road in the north. Access can also be gained via Overhead Bridge Road and School Road.

Some 165 species of birds have been recorded in the national park.

There are no camping sites within the national park to my knowledge.

WALKS:

Bongil Picnic Area (Lyons Trail):

This is a day use area only providing tables, toilets and BBQs, as well as wheelchair access. There is a short walk (Lyons Trail) from the picnic area.

Access to the Bongil Picnic Area is off the Pacific Highway, via Williams Road at Bonville.

Bundagen Headland Track:

The Bundagen Headland Track (Bundageree Rainforest Walk) begins at Tuckers Rocks (at the end of Tuckers Rocks Road) and makes its way to Bundagen Headland. This is an easy stroll through rainforest, not far from Bundageree Creek.

Bluff Loop:

Branching off from the Bundagen Headland Track, this track is one that leads to Tuckers Rocks before returning to the car park at the end of Tuckers Rock Road. Koalas can be spotted on this track.

Bongil Beach and Pine Creek Track:

Another walk is located at the end of Overhead Bridge Road. This walk proceeds to Pine Creek, with an offshoot towards Scrub Creek and Bongil Beach.
