HIDDEN TREASURE TRAIL: ANZAC DAY TRIP - APRIL 25, 2003:
I was meant to be staying in the Copeland area for a couple of days, but this would not happen due to the wet weather. I had arrived at Copeland Common late on Thursday night and slept in the car. The following morning I decided to drive to the Copeland Cemetery and then do one of the bush walks associated with the Copeland mining area in Copeland Tops State Forest.
The walk I decided on was the Hidden Treasure Mine Walk (1-2 Hrs). The walk begins from the Mountain Maid Gold Mine car park area and proceeds up the Old Copeland Road. When a fork in the road is reached a road branches off to a wooden bridge, where a track can be seen heading off to the right. The track is then followed for a one hour circuit walk to the Hidden Treasure Gold Mine. Along the way is Back Creek, various gold mine workings, an old boiler and the mine itself. There are also good views of various plants, including large numbers of birdnest ferns and orchids in the trees above.
