Wingen Maid Nature Reserve |
WHAT'S ON THIS PAGE:
INTRODUCTION:
To reach the Wingen Maid Nature Reserve from Scone the Middle Brook Road is taken before turning right onto the Cressfield Road and then turning left onto Dry Creek Road. Views can be had over the surrounding country, including views of the Wingen Maid Nature Reserve. This is a trip well worth taking. The Dry Creek Road can also be taken from the New England Highway.
The rock feature which gives it's name to the nature reserve is the Wingen Maid, an important figure in the beliefs of the Wonnarua Aboriginal people. They believe the landform to be that of a woman who was waiting for her husband to return from battle and when he didn't she wished to die. Instead she was turned to stone, with her tears being turned into flames (at Burning Mountain Nature Reserve).
CAMPING:
A basic camping ground is provided nearby in the Towarri National Park.
